Up and Over Race

This year Brian, Allyson, Karlee, and Dustin ran the pass race. This was Dustin's first year. Lynzi and I watched from the top looking down and we saw Dustin running and passing people like crazy. Ally was going to run the 10K and she was up in the front in about 4th place. We got to the top and were waiting to see how it would all turn out. We were so surprised to see Ally and Dustin coming in together. Dustin took 2nd place in the 5K and Ally took 1st place for the women in the 10 K. Karlee had a bad race and she let us all know about it. Brian ran the 10K and he did really well. We completed our yearly tradition by making homemade doughnuts after the race. GOOD TIMES!

Dustin, Lynzi and I spent the afternoon playing in the leaves, this is one of my favorite things to do in the fall.

State Cross Country

 

This year Karlee had a good race at State. She ended up taking 7th overall and it was an exciting fun day. It was different having just one racer this year. Congrats, Karlee you did great!

Karlee ended up driving to Bear Lake to spend a couple of days. When we drove through Logan we just had to stop and get this picture. Karlee and Fredrico what a pair!

Halloween Party

Some of our friends just threw the funnest party. It all started out with a knock and run invitation that said:

So then, while Brian was at bishopbric meeting and I was at Stake Auxiliary Meeting, we got a knock at the door. Dustin answered the door and there was a guy with a mask and a chainsaw. He said hey buddy and handed him a brown paper bag with a note on it. Dustin just grabbed the note and slammed the door in his face. He said it really freaked him out.

The note told us which couple we would be paired with and to make driving arrangements to go together. We were paired with Travis and Lori Hogge. They picked us up and we each had a brown paper bag with our 1st clue in it.

We had a hard time finding the headstone in the dark but eventually we found it.

This sent us to Jesse and Ali Hammons Home where we met our hosts for the night.
The Posts and the Hammons threw the party and it was a blast. I was so impressed with all the work that they went to. I thought I should write it down for future party throwing.

RIM2RIM Baby!!!

We went and hiked the Grand Canyon with the Hansen's and the Baker's this past weekend. We left on Wednesday after the Region Cross Country meet (which Karlee took 6th place in). We drove until 2 am and stayed in a yoga studio in Page Arizona. We woke up early and started driving to the south rim of the grand canyon. We didn't get to the canyon until 1 in the afternoon and started hiking at about 1:30. We were supposed to hike 17 miles that first day but after 11 miles it was dark and Cindy had bad blisters on her toes so we crossed the Colorado River and stayed at a campground called Phantom Ranch. I was so tired I just got into the tent and fell asleep.
On Friday we started hiking in the morning and hiked along the river. It was flat on this part of the hike and quite peaceful. We went to a waterfall called Ribbon falls and we swam and ate lunch there. I think that was my favorite part of the whole trip. We then hiked to the Cottonwood campground and set up camp and slept there.
Saturday, we woke up early and because I wanted to get an early start we left before the Baker's and the Hansen's. This day was HARD!!! We climbed to the north rim and it was so steep. My heart started to do the pounding thing. My legs and arms were tingling and I didn't think I could make it.
Brian was so good to me. He kept encouraging me (even though I was grouchy) and he even took my pack. We eventually made it up to the top and waited until Heidi and Parker came around with the cars. We drove to Jacob's Lake and ate a hamburger which tasted oh so good and drove home stinky and yucky (no showers on the north rim). We made it home around 2 am and showered and slept in our nice bed. I am glad that I did it but I don't know if I will be doing it again. Brian is all ready planning a trip back next year to run it rim to rim in one day. CRAZY!!!

We went to Cedar City this past weekend to watch Ally run. She did so good and it was fun to see the whole team. After the race we took pictures of the team. I am happy that she is enjoying the running part of college. We just have to work on the roommate situation!

Brian and I went to the Brad Paisley concert. The coolest thing happened...he came back and played 3 or 4 songs right in the row that we were sitting in. He is so entertaining to watch, this is our second concert of his and we will definitely go again. Here is a picture of him with no zoom. AWESOME!

65 pounds vs...220 pounds

I don't know what the people in West Haven feed their kids but they grow them big out there!
Dustin tackled a 220 pound kid on his own. Brian said that it was one of the funniest things he has ever seen while watching football.

Time Out

I went to Time Out for women a couple of weeks ago up at Utah State. We all stayed at Tasha's house and then went to hear lots of good speakers talk on HOPE. My favorite was a lady named Kris Belcher. She is blind from cancer and she spoke on light. I really needed a time out and looking forward to doing this again next year!

Tonight I went to the Relief Society broadcast. President Monson's talk was on not judging others. He told a story of a woman who looked out her window and criticized her neighbor for hanging out dirty laundry. She did this for about two weeks and then one morning to her surprise the ladies laundry was clean when she looked out her window. Her husband told her that he woke up early and cleaned their windows.
We all need to look at others with clean windows.
Good lesson to learn from our prophet.

Summer 2010

It has been a long long time since I even opened up this blog. This summer was the summer of remodeling, getting Ally to college, and just surviving...to say the least I have been a little bit stressed but I am bound and determined to enjoy life and not sweat the small stuff.
Some highlights of our summer was a 20 mile hike in Jackson to Union Falls. I had been having all sorts of heart palpitations and the cardiologist told me not to go but I went anyway and I am so glad that I did it was beautiful and something good to say that I have done. Here are some pictures from it.

Spectacular

The youth from 33 stakes in our area participated in a Spectacular performance. Wow, it was a lot of work but really amazing to see all of the youth. I think that it will be an awesome memory for Karlee and Lynzi who got to participate.

More on the Remodel

The saga continues on the remodel. We have made a little progress and it is now official we are in the thick of the remodel. I am so excited to get this finished and live in a newly remodeled home!!

Teddi

Ally volunteered us to babysit one of her friends dog while they went on vacation. There are a few things she forgot to ask me about...
This dog is a house dog and has to be inside. Oh my I am not an inside the house pet person.
Leave it to Ally to volunteer for something like this.
I do have to admit that Teddi is cute and he has been a great entertainment tool for the kids but I don't think my position on inside pets is going to change!

4th of JULY

This year we went to Logan to see the fireworks. This is one of our favorite traditions. This year the finale was absolutely amazing. I have never seen anything like it.
On the third we went to Liberty days...the kids love to spend all day there. We went to the fireworks there that night. I like Liberty Days because we get so see so many people from the community.
I am so thankful to live in America and to have freedom here. I feel truly blessed to live in Liberty.

Ragnar

Ally and Karlee ran in the Ragnar relay this year. Karlee got two extra miles added on to her last leg. She was NOT happy. Ally got huge blisters and was really hot and miserable and yet before the race was finished they were planning for next years race. CRAZY girls.

HUMMINGBIRD HEAVEN

Lynzi and Dustin got asked to take care of our neighbors yard and animals while they went on vacation. They have about 20 hummingbird feeders and there are hundreds of hummingbirds at about 8:30 at night. Pretty cool to see!

WELL WE GOT OUR SWAMP COOLER UP AND RUNNING AND THEN WENT DOWNTOWN. ALLYSON CALLED US SAYING THAT THE CEILING HAD A BUBBLE IN IT. BRIAN TOLD HER TO GO TURN OFF THE WATER DOWNSTAIRS. INSTEAD OF TURNING THE WATER OFF SHE TURNED IT ON FULL BLAST. WHEN WE GOT BACK FROM TOWN WE CAME HOME TO THE CEILING COLLAPSED AND THIS LITTLE MESS.

Stay Cation

While Brian and Dustin went to scout camp the girls and I had a staycation.
We went swimming and saw Toy Story 3 in 3D. We went on a hike and got pedicures. We went shopping and had a Chick flick marathon. We had the Hansen girls over for dinner and games and we had a GREAT week. This stay cation idea is a good one, we will do this again for sure!

Remodeling...Oh the JOY!

Yes I am excited to get our remodel underway and I think that it will be so nice when it is finished....but oh the mess!!
We are in the thick of the remodel now and dust is 1 inch thick throughout my whole house. It will be so nice when it is done. I just need to enjoy this remodeling journey!

Summer Time!

Time has gotten away from me and I haven't found 2 minutes to sit down and catch up. So....this is our life in a nutshell the past month.
Dustin graduated from 6th grade and our family graduated from Valley Elementary...strange! Dustin turned 12 and got ordained to the office of a deacon. He sure is serious about this new responsibility and it is so nice to see. He is very into scouts and is a little go getter about getting those merit badges.
Lynzi finished the 8th grade and she is still 100% a 4.0 student. She made the yearbook staff and is excited about that. This summer she is in charge of the flower beds at our home and she is doing a good job with that. Lynzi also is doing
4H this summer and we need to get busy with that.
Karlee is still job searching. She supposedely has 10 jobs but none are coming through. She will keep searching. Karlee finished her sophomore year with a bang! She took 5th place at state in both the mile and the two mile. She still is a social butterfly and likes to be involved in EVERYTHING!
Allyson graduated from high school and is working at Wolf Creek this summer. She thinks that all she does is work and sleep and is not too happy about her lack of social life. She is earning lots of money though. She did go on a date and got in a wreck because her date got distracted while she was on the phone with the radio station winning tickets to a concert. Something like that would only happen to Ally!
Brian is BUSY at work and not enjoying his job all that much. I will be so happy when this job in Huntington will calm down soon. His crazy goal of running everyday is still going strong. He is more obsessed than I am about goals.
I have been busy planning girls camp. We went to a Down's Syndrome camp and finished cabins for service up in Smoot Wyoming. It was so cold and a lot of work but I think that overall it was a great experience.

Lynzi Yearbook Staff

Congratulations Lynzi for making yearbook staff. Here are a few pictures of her portfolio. Lynzi was chosen by a group of teachers and students and she will be making the yearbook for Snowcrest next year. If you ask me they made a great choice because Lynzi is very creative, organized and talented. Good job LYNZI!

Awards Assembly

This year at Weber Allyson was awarded with the Ralph Price Award. One senior girl and one senior boy get the award it is quite an honor.
Karlee also got some awards for running.
Good job girls!

Graduation

Allyson graduated from Weber High. It was so weird to think that she is finished with high school. She had a great day. She got pulled over by a police woman for rolling through a stop sign on her way to graduation practice. She was lucky to get away with just a warning. She sang at graduation with the choir and sounded so good. After graduation we went to the Ritchie's house and had a dinner. She then went to Toad's for an all night party and stayed up to hike the Ben Lomond trail to see the sunrise.
She is moving on to the next stage in life and is very excited to be headed to college.

Seminary Graduation

Allyson graduated from seminary this year and she was asked to speak for seminary graduation. I could only pin her down to get pictures with the guys. Thanks for being a great girl Ally!

Happy Birthday Dustin

Dustin is such a blessing in my life. This year he turned 12 and got the Priesthood. I can't believe how fast he is growing up. Dustin is full of personality and he is truly a good boy. I am very blessed to have him as a son!

Dustin just turned 12!!! WOW I can't believe that he is all ready 12 and in the young men program at church. We went to St. George and watched Brian Regan for his birthday. Brian Regan was hilarious and we had a great time.

State Track

This week we had state track at BYU. Allyson and Karlee both ran in the 1 mile and the 2 mile race and Karlee ran in the 4X4.
Allyson had a very disappointing time at state and is very sad about what took place there. We have had many talks about her new opportunities for running with UVU. I hope that she can get the confidence that she needs to run as good as she can.
Karlee had a great two days and took fifth place in both the mile and the two mile. Her 4X4 team took 2nd at state and they were so exciting to watch.
They both had senior cotillion that night and since I wasn't home I didn't get pictures of them. I will have to get copies of their pictures when they get them. They both had a great time!

Snowcrest Ragnar

This year was the 2nd mini Ragnar race at Snowcrest. Dustin got a team of his buddies together and they took first for their age group.
Lynzi ran with Bailey and Brian and they took 2nd for the 3 man team and Allyson ran with a group of friends and they took first overall. This is a silly race but one that they look forward to always.

Auxiliary Training Meeting

This past week has been incredibly busy for me. I was in charge of teacher appreciation for both Snowcrest and Valley. I had to do a presentation for Auxiliary training meeting. I through a camp kick off meeting. I worked on Tuesday. We had region track on Wednesday and Thursday.
I have never gone into a presentation for Auxiliary Training so totally unprepared. As I was sitting in the temple on Thursday my heart was going 144 beats a minute and I felt chest pain. I think I was having a panic attack!!!! I went to the track meet and got to the meeting right at 7:00 when it started. I got into the room and the one part of the presentation that I did have prepared was a DVD of some girls in our stake. Well, the DVD player would not work and they had been working on it for a half hour. The panic really started to set in then. I told Anne and Willow that we had to say a prayer so we went into the other room and prayed while Dave Saunders continued to work on the DVD player. Literally as we walked out of the room after saying the prayer he got it to work.
Part of my presentation was that the Lord is in the details of this amazing work. I just have to say that I know that to be true! I will never forget the peaceful feeling that came and I do know that He cares about what happens to little old Mitzi. I am so thankful to know that.
